From January to August this year, the output of tobacco products in Kazakhstan increased by nearly 10% year-on-year, and the price rose by about 13%.
Statistics show that from January to August this year, Kazakhstan's tobacco companies produced 10.6 billion cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco products, with a year-on-year increase of 9.9%. In monetary terms, the total output value amounts to 131.6 billion tenge (420 tenge per US dollar).
Nearly 90% of Kazakhstan's tobacco products are used to meet the domestic market demand. According to the situation from January to July this year, Kazakh local tobacco companies met 74.7% of domestic tobacco and cigarette demand, compared with 39.9% last year.
Meanwhile, from January to July this year, Kazakhstan imported 3 billion cigarettes and cigars, accounting for 25.3% of Kazakhstan's total demand for tobacco and cigarettes, a sharp decrease compared with the same period last year.
In addition, according to statistics, in early September, the average retail price of a pack of cigarettes in Kazakhstan was 489 tenge, an increase of 12.7% year-on-year.
Kazakhstan will implement new rules on tobacco sales from October 1, Kazakhstan news agency reported. According to the survey, the average daily consumption of tobacco in Kazakhstan is about 14.1 million sticks.
