Cambodia's National Narcotics Agency (NACD) has instructed all relevant ministries and agencies to take immediate action to stop the use and commercialization of heated tobacco products (HTP), the Phnom Penh Post reported.

Cambodia's crackdown on heating and non burning products: banning all trade and import

"All forms of HTP trafficking, trade and import must be stopped, and information on import restrictions must be disseminated to all suppliers and the public," the State Drug Administration said in a directive.

Using cigars, electronic nicotine delivery devices (ends) and HTPs can lead to serious lung disease and even death, NACD quoted the World Health Organization as saying. The announcement further said that the use of these products is also a motive for people to use other illegal drugs.

Cambodia has been restricting terminals since February 2014, but its guidelines do not cover newer HTPs.

In the past, authorities confiscated many of these products, said deputy director of the national police, michito. He said that although some other countries consider it legal to use these products, Cambodia does not allow it.

"There are also bad guys in Cambodia who cheat with methamphetamine or marijuana," he said.
